It is an honour to be nominated amongst so many amazing people for the 'Communities, Community Hero' award.  All the nominees are amazing with what they do for the community.  The top 3 nominees from each award category will be selected as finalists. Voting begins 1st September. The 2023 ‘Microsoft Community UK Spotlight and Recognition Awards’ ceremony will be hosted on Friday 13th October, from 7pm at the South Coast Summit 2023 Community Gala.

Free version of Microsoft Purview (Preview)

The free version of Microsoft Purview is an amazing opportunity to start down that journey to data governance. There are various elements  

• An Automatically available instance, ready your users without set-up.
• A single, organization-wide instance of Microsoft Purview
• Metadata stored in Azure is automatically inventoried
• Free search using the Microsoft Purview Data Catalog
• The Data Catalog automatically records data schema

Meta data curation can be done by data owners in the data catalog curator role,  for things like description, classifications, and contacts. To view any assets all users need Read permissions.

The free version of Microsoft Purview supports these data sources:

·       Azure Blob Storage

·       Azure Data Lake Storage Gen 2

·       Azure SQL Database

·       Azure subscriptions

There is a limitation on the free version of 10,000 annotated assets.  For clarity a description and a classification on the same asset are only treated as one annotated asset.

It is managed at the organization/tenant level.

 
The new experience uses a single, primary Microsoft Purview account. Multiple accounts, should be coming later'

Microsoft Purview Portals

Microsoft Purview has been evolving over the last year. First with the name change from Azure Purview to Microsoft Purview, and with the rename of the risk and compliance apps to Microsoft Purview as well.  Then the introduction of the Microsoft Purview hub for Fabric and now a New Purview Governance Portal. It is great to see this level of innovation and change. 

There are currently multiple ways to access Microsoft Purview depending on which Portal you want to reach.

The exciting new #MicrosoftPurview portal is in Preview.

Microsoft Purview is a family of data governance, risk, and compliance solutions. These solutions enable organizations to govern, protect, and manage the entire data estate.

There is now a live view for Azure sources.  This means that some Azure resources are available in the Microsoft Purview Data Catalog without scanning. This live view has Name, Properties, Schema and Lineage available as metadata.

There are also updated reader and owner permissions.

Another exciting change is that there is now a free version of Microsoft Purview for the Data Catalog.
